Updates/Reminders from the Cub Master

Hello Pack 318,

Thank you all for attending our kickoff event on Thursday, it was well attended and kicked off the scouting year with a blast!  Special thank you to all the new families that attended, we look forward to integrating your families into our pack and their respective dens and providing a great scouting experience to your sons and family.

  • Don’t forget that we have our first camping trip of the scouting year coming up on Saturday September 30th.  Please update your RSVP on evite if you have not already. (LINK TO EVITE)  We have reserved the climbing wall at Ockanickon Scout Reservation (Picture below) and will be learning about climbing and repelling skills in the afternoon followed by Dinner and the Campfire Program, and breakfast Sunday morning if you plan to stay over.  The cost to climb is $20 per scout and once we have a better idea of the number of scouts attending we’ll split up the camping and food costs accordingly.
  • If you would like to camp but need to get some new gear at discounted prices, go to www.hikerdirect.com and register yourself as a part of Boy Scouts.  Hiker Direct is run by the Alps Mountaineering Brand and offers their products at around 40% off for scouts.  If you are on a budget…check out their Cedar Ridge brand which offers entry level products.   I have bought a lot of gear from hiker direct and can attest to the quality of the gear.
  • Also, coming up on October 21st we have the sleepover at the New Jersey Battleship.  Details will be sent out soon along with the Evite to RSVP.
  • Also, the Den meetings should be starting up soon.  Please let me know if you have not received an email from your Den Leader.  Kindergarten and 1st grade parents, please don’t expect an email yet as we need someone to volunteer to be the Den Leader to manage the Tiger Program.  My wife and I ran the program last year and it’s not that hard, and we’re happy to help you get up to speed.  Let me know if you are interested.
  • For new parents, I will be sending you a link to register your boys with our pack online.  If you have already filled out the paper application, great, no need to do the online version.  If you do choose to register online, please do not pay there as the system is not configured correctly to accept proper payment – choose pay by cash or check while registering.  The fee for the year is $75.00 which is split up amongst national boy scout fees (that cover the administration of Boy Scouts, and provides insurance to Boy Scout members) and the Pack fee that goes directly to the pack to fund operations and subsidize event fees.  If you choose to receive the Boy’s Life Magazine (which I recommend) it is an additional $12 creating an annual fee of $87.  If you could please submit payment via cash or check to our Treasurer Cassie Dunn (who is also St. Cyril’s business manager) at St. Cyril’s by September 30th, it will be appreciated.
  • For Returning Scouts, The fee for the year is $75.00 which is split up amongst national boy scout fees (that cover the administration of Boy Scouts, and provides insurance to Boy Scout members) and the Pack fee that goes directly to the pack to fund operations and subsidize event fees.
  • Just as another reminder, our website is www.pack318scouts.org.  Please look to the website for up-to-date schedule information.

Enjoy the rest of September and I look forward to seeing you on the Fall Camping & Climbing Trip on Sept. 30th.

Thanks,

Nick Plante – Pack 318 Cub Master

New Website - Welcome!

You will notice some changes in the way we go about Pack business over the next several months and we are pretty sure they will be changes for the better.  Our hope is that you can (eventually) rely on the website as your main source of information about our Scout program.

In the near future, our leaders will learn to post stories and update their calendars and some other nifty tricks to keep everyone at the top of their game. Please give them some leeway as the changes go into effect and everything starts smoothing out.  It might get a little rocky before it gets smooth.

We think you are going to like the changes.  This website is already packed with features and when we get in a groove at the leadership level it will be even better.

If you'd like to contribute let us know.
